What the learner already knows

This week we take a second look at the Assessment principle from the Greensand PACE model.

This piece, from the EEF, but penned by Professor Rob Coe, looks at the purpose of assessment and how to get the most out of it as a tool for informing us about our students. It draws upon and discusses the work of Ausubel who stated that the most important single factor that influences learning is what the learner already knows. Therefore, ascertaining this information is vital if our students are to make the maximum amount of progress with us.
