Stepping into Greatness: Building Confidence and Community Through Music

Stepping into Greatness: Building Confidence and Community Through Music

On Friday 7th November, more than 200 pupils from 10 schools across our Multi Academy Trust came together for Let’s Sing 2025, a Trust-wide music event themed “Stepping into Greatness”.

The event was not just about performing, it was an opportunity for children to experience something beyond the classroom, to collaborate with peers from other schools, and to feel part of a wider educational community.

For many pupils, this was their first time performing in front of such a large audience. The sense of anticipation was clear during the afternoon rehearsals and even more so as they stepped onto the stage, supported by school staff and music leads who had worked tirelessly to prepare them. The event showcased the strength of our Trust values: Collaboration, as schools worked together to create a unified choir; Support, through the guidance and encouragement offered by staff; and Challenge, as pupils pushed themselves to perform with confidence.

The programme reflected the theme of aspiration and resilience. The whole choir opened with We’re All Made of Stars, followed by smaller group performances of songs including Reach for the Stars, Try Everything, How Far I’ll Go, Power in Me and Dynamite. Later, the whole choir came back together on stage for renditions of For Good and I’m Still Standing. Each piece was chosen to inspire ambition and celebrate perseverance.

Events like this contribute significantly to pupils’ cultural capital. Performing in a formal setting, working alongside children from other schools, and engaging with a diverse repertoire of music are experiences that broaden horizons and build confidence. They also remind us that our schools are part of something bigger - a Trust committed to supporting children to engage in a lifelong development of pursuits that they love.

The audience included parents, Trustees, and Headteachers, all of whom enjoyed this shared experience and contributed to the strong sense of community atmosphere in the hall. Many parents expressed pride in seeing their children perform, with more than a few eyes glistening with pride across the venue during the performance.

A special thank you goes to the music leads from each school, whose expertise and dedication ensured the event ran smoothly and that every child felt prepared. Their work exemplifies the commitment across our Trust to nurture talent and create memorable experiences.

Let’s Sing 2025 was a celebration of music, confidence, and collaboration. It demonstrated what can be achieved when we work together and provide children with opportunities to step into greatness.
