Greensand Trust Staff Survey 2025: Fostering a Joyful and Purposeful Workplace
Our staff are the cornerstone of our Trust. Their commitment, talent and care make the greatest difference to the lives of our children. We firmly believe that supporting staff happiness, wellbeing and professional growth is not only the right thing to do, but also key to retaining our best employees. When staff feel valued, supported and fulfilled in their roles, they are able to Step into their Greatness, which in turn, enables our children to Step into their Greatness.
We are very pleased that 95% of staff would recommend their workplace as a good place to work and that 98% of staff would recommend their school to parents as a good place for their children to study.
“I love working where I do and that is why a lot of staff don’t leave”
“I am extremely proud of the school that I work for.”
“I am very lucky to work in such a great school”
We’re delighted to share the outcomes of our 2025 staff survey, which reflect real progress and positive momentum across our Trust. Building on feedback from last year’s survey, we focused on key areas such as line management, professional development, workload and career progression. We’re delighted to report that improvements are clear in every one of these priorities. Of course, there is still work to do in some areas to improve our staff experience but overall, we are pleased with the progress that our staff confirm the Trust has made.
Stronger Line Management and Leadership
90% of staff reported a very positive relationship with their line manager, which is excellent feedback. Staff told us they feel able to approach and be honest with their line managers, with very strong scores in this area. This shows the impact of our efforts to strengthen leadership culture. There has been a 14% improvement in positive responses to line management support, which has been an area of focus for the Trust. Whilst contact frequency with line managers can still vary, the overall sentiment is encouraging and highlights strong foundations of trust and support.
Empowering Professional Growth
There has been a 22% improvement in positive responses regarding professional development opportunities at Greensand and 85% of staff say that the professional development opportunities available help them to be better in their role. Engagement in professional development is widespread, with staff taking part in everything from whole school training to online learning. Importantly, the activities staff found most impactful closely align with those most commonly taken up. This confirms that we’re offering relevant, high-value opportunities and making headway in our aim to improve professional growth.
Career Pathways: Clearer, but More to Do
Awareness of our professional development pathway remains an area to strengthen. With only 39% familiar with our Professional Development “tube map,” we need to work on raising its visibility. As we continue to grow our talent from within, we aim to build better awareness and access to structured progression routes.
New Appraisal Framework Showing Impact
Schools using our new appraisal format reported stronger engagement, more meaningful conversations and better goal setting. This suggests the new approach is working and we will continue to extend its benefits in all schools for greater consistency across the Trust.
Collaboration Day Success
This year’s Trust Collaboration Day in February was a success, with staff rating the experience highly. In particular, staff feedback was that the workshops and sessions on AI and Trust Values were very positive and these have already inspired new approaches in classrooms.
Wellbeing and Workload
The wellbeing of all our staff is extremely important to Greensand. Whilst pressure points remain, many staff reported feeling supported and have acknowledged increased efforts across the Trust to improve wellbeing. Suggestions for clearer workload planning and more practical support will inform our next steps.
“I work in an extremely inclusive and happy school with a range of diversity. I feel privileged to be here. I learn something new most days. I am often tired but a good tired. I feel important and that I matter.”
“the children’s care comes first always and all the team are very loving towards the children and form good social bonds”
In Summary
This survey shows the power of listening and acting. By focusing on what staff fed back to us last year, we have achieved visible progress in the areas that matter most. From leadership and development to collaboration and wellbeing, Greensand schools continue to move in the right direction and we are excited to continue improving in order to help staff step into their greatness.
